Corrosion is responsible for most failures in metallic materials, next to fatigue, and is found in a wide variety of facilities and systems. Corrosion exists in different forms in nearly every industry.
Corrosion is an electrochemical process typically involving two kinds of reactions: oxidation and reduction. The oxidation reaction is the process of converting electrically neutral metal atoms into electronically charged ions with the release of free electrons. Oxidation occurs at the anodic areas of the affected metal. Reduction occurs simultaneously at the cathodic areas of the metal in which electrons are consumed. The needed medium for corrosion to happen in which the anodic and cathodic reactions occur is the electrolyte. The electrolyte conducts the electric current generated during the corrosion process.
Our team of experienced materials engineers will apply our advanced understanding of alloys and processes to select the most effective corrosion control methods for your application.
